Map of the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean. With a magnificent title cartouche, decorated with a cornucopia, corals and pearls and an inset map framed by a banner surrounded by corals and mermaids depicting the main city of Terceira Island „Angra no Heroismo“ from the birds perspective.
Beautiful copper engraving printed off two plates on handmade paper by the cartographer and publisher Vincenzo Maria Coronelli (1650-1718) from „Atlante Veneto“, Venice c. 1692.

Nuanced print, some minor creases, at the bottom right corner a bend, altogether in very good condition.
Vincenco Coronelli (1650-1718), was a monk of the Conventual Franciscans in Venice and was later appointed as Father General of the Franciscan order. He founded the first geographical society “Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti” in 1680. He was a well-known cosmographer, cartographer and publisher.
