Oval shaped map (Mercator projection), designed after the world map by Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) from 1570. Depicting the “New World” with North- and South America, Europe, Africa and parts of Asia.
Beautiful hand coloured woodcut by Sebastian Münster (1488-1552) from the German edition of „Cosmographey oder Beschreibung aller Länder.“ published by Heinrich Petri, Basel 1588.
Map size: 32,3 cm x 36 cm
Strong print and colours, usual smoothened centre fold, some minor creases and stains in the outer margins, altogether in very good condition.
