Italian folding fan from the Rococo-Era
Front: Beautiful Ladies sitting on a big table at the sea having a party together with cupids and a gentleman. In the background new arriving guests waving happily to the group. The scene is framed by golden bordures.
Back: A lonesome landscape at the sea, a young lady is sitting under a tree and an arriving gentleman presenting a dove’s nest to her. Golden bordures framing the scene.
Leaf made of very fine vellum (canepin) with paintings on both sides, watercolours (front) and gouache technique (back). The fan´s skeleton is made of carved and modeled ivory. Decoration of the front guarding stick is a bird of paradise. Rivet decorated with a gemstone.
Span width: 25 cm x 47 cm
Date: Italy (?) around 1790
Slight signs of usage, altogether in very fine condition.
