The Immaculate Heart of Saint Mary

Saint Mary holding a white lily in one hand, pointing with the other hand to the burning heart on her chest. A corona of golden stars surrounds her head. The burning heart symbolizes her purity, immaculacy and holiness, the white lily being a symbol of chastity. German text below: „Mein Mutter Herz steht allen offen, Die mit Andacht auf diß hoffen“ – (My motherly heart is open to all who hope for it with devotion)

Beautiful small religious picture, made of silk and brocade, the face and hands made from a cut out coloured copper engraving. Southern Germany, c. 1790/1820
