Two-tailed Pasha and Zebra Swallowtail

Depicted are two butterflies, the one above with the name “Papilio Iason” (Charaxes jasius, two-tailed pasha), the other a zebra swallowtaill similar to “Protographium marcellus”, both with their wings spread. At the bottom handwritten description  "Fig. 1. Pap. Jason. Fig. 2. Pap. Ajax."

Fine originale watercolour by Eugen Johann Christoph Esper (1742-1810), a preliminary drawing for his book “Die Schmetterlinge in Abbildungen nach der Natur” published by Walther, Erlangen, and Weigel in Leipzig, 1777-1839
