Southern Cross - Astrolabe

On deck of a ship two men watching the night sky. One with an astrolabe in his hand, the other one holding a lantern to illuminate the night. The illustration is possibly showing Amerigo Vespucci discovering the Southern Cross. Beneath the illustration are Dantes words referring to the stars and the Southern Cross, written in German and Latin language.
