Title page of  Braun and Hogenberg "Beschreibung und Contrafactur der vornembster Stät der Welt. 1574"

The decorative title page shows, sitting on a pedestal with the inscription "Beschreibung und Contrafactur der vornembster Stät der Welt. 1574", the Magna Marta. She is the source of all wisdom and knowledge in ancient Greek mythology. In her right hand she holds a carpenter´s level in her right hand and a compass and a carpenter´s square in her left. To her feet on the right the goddess of wisdom Athena and on her left Cain with the ox bone in his hand with which he killed Abel.

Strong impression and colours, small professionally restored paper loss at the lower margin, two small tears in lower and right margin, stained alongside the lower margin, general light soiling, otherwise in very good condition due to the age.
