South Pole

Title: „Polus Antarcticus, Henricus Hondius excudit“

One of the earliest maps of the South Pole with South America (Cape Horn), South Africa (Cape of Good Hope) and parts of southern Australia. With a decorative title cartouche and scenes with the inhabitants of the region in each corner of the map. Verso description in Latin.

Size: 44 x 48,5 cm

Decorative map with beautiful colours and gilding, some stains at the margins, small backing at the bottom half of the centre fold, altogether in very good condition.
