Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892)

A dramatic scene from the the Chûshingura drama: the samurai Kobayashi Heihachirô defends the house of his master Kira Yoshinaka (aka Moronao) in the snowy garden with his sword against the attacking avengers, the so-called "47 faithful ronin".

Excellent impression and colours, with relief and lustre printing. Retains original album backing. Verso a little toned. Left margin slightly trimmed, minimal soiling in bottom.
