A view of the Benten shrine on the small island in Shinobazu pond at Ueno, on a snowy winter evening.

Title: Shinobugaoka no bosetsu (Evening snow in Shinobugaoka, i.e. Shinobu hill)

Series: Edo hakkei (Eight views from Edo)

Signature: Keisai Eisen ga

Publisher: (Yamamotoya Heikichi, Eikyûdô, Edo)

Censor: Watari

Date: 1843-46

Size: Horizontal Ôban, 22,2 x 34,5 cm (image)

Very nice impression and colours. Unbacked. Trimmed to the black image border lines and professionally remargined. Two very light vertical folds, smoothed and hardly noticeable. Overall very nice and clean condition.
Rare print. One of the seldom seen landscape views of Eisen. From a small series of eight views from Edo, created in analogy to the famous Eight Views of Lake Biwa (Ômi hakkei). The artist's preoccupation with perspective is clearly visible here.
