On the roof terrace of an inn in Maruyama, Nagasaki. A richly dressed courtesan with a long telescope and her companion enjoying the view over Nagasaki bay
Architectural and interieur details of the house display the local taste for Chinese culture. At Nagasaki there was the only permitted Chinese trading post during the Edo period.
