After Takahashi Shôtei (1920/30s)
Heavy night rain. Passers-by under their umbrellas crossing a footbridge, in the background a temple in the hills.
Title: Chômeiji no ame (Chômei temple in the rain)
Date: C. 1920/30s
Size: Vertical Ôtanzaku (Mitsugiri-ban), 38,5 x 17,3 cm (overall size)
Excellent impression, colours and condition.
With some minor changes, this image corresponds to Takahashi Shôtei's "Rain at Terashima" (Shotei.com M-8). It was a quite common practice of the time to copy or paraphrase successful images, adding familiar artist names such as here the seal reading "Hokusai". Interestingly too, also a new title is given.
