Title: Hanami (Cherry Blossom Viewing)

Series: Azuma (East)

Signature: Yôshû Chikanobu

Seal: Toshidama

Publisher: Fukuda Hatsujirô, Tokyo

Date: Meiji 29 (1896)

Size: Oban, 35,2 x 24 cm (paper size)

Very good impression and very nice fresh colours, with glossy overprint, red oxidized due to the pigments used. With an old mounting. Perfect condition.

The title „East“ means „Elegant traditional kimono fashion from the eastern capital city, i.e. Tokyo“. This rare and very nice series by Chikanobu shows ladies dressed with kimonos appropriate to their activities. Therefore esp. the kimonos are very skilfully worked out in detail.
