Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798-1861)

The immensely strong man Kamata Matahachi lifting up a huge temple pillar to put his sandal under it. A flock of disturbed pigeons flying up in front of the temple altar. The inset showing the landscape at Karuizawa.

Very nice impression and colours, with relief printing. Colour variant of the title cartouche. Red of the temple lantern oxidized. Right and lower margin a tiny bit trimmed. Horizontal centrefold (with an about 4 mm tear at the left side). Red collector's seal „S“ in a circle at lower left. Throughout very good condition.
