Minagawa Taizô (1917-2005)
Interior of a traditional old large Minka house in the countryside. Above the open fireplace (irori) hangs a large iron kettle, on the little table in front of it a candlestick next to a pair of glasses and a pipe. To the left, a large cupboard with ceramics and a small Shintô house altar. A black cat lies in front of the open sliding wall in the background.

Excellent impression and colours, with full margins. In bottom right margin embossed "Wood block hand print by Kyoto Mikumo Japan". A few weak creases in margin and verso in top and bottom margin each a paper remnant from previous attachment. Overall very good condition.
A homely scene by the Kyoto artist Minagawa Taizô, who was mainly active as a textile artist, but who also created some woodblock prints for Unsodô and also for the smaller publisher Mikumo Mokuhansha, with a great fondness for so-called Mingei ("folk art") subjects and depictions of traditional Japanese rural architecture.
