Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858)

Three women on the bank of the Kitajukken River, coming probably from a New Year's visit of the Kameidô shrine, as one of them carries a mayudama branch with sweets over her shoulder. To the right the well-known kaiseki restaurant Hashimoto with some blooming plum trees. In the background numerous visitors on the bridge to the entrance of the adjacent Myôken-dô temple in Yanagishima. In the fan-shaped cartouche a humorous haiku poem (kyôku) praising the restaurant.

Very good impression, colours somewhat faded, but overall still good. Unbacked, margins trimmed a little, a few small thin spots and tiny holes, small paper remnants from previous hinging in top verso corners. Overall nice and clean condition.
From a rarely seen series by Hiroshige with views of famous restaurants and teahouses in their surrounding landscapes, with nice depictions of people, in slightly different colour variations.
