Takahashi Shôtei (Hiroaki) (1871-1945)

A summer night scene on the Sumida river, with boats and illuminated inns, watched by a young woman in the foreground, who is enjoying the evening cool on a boat.

Title: Ôkawa suzumi (Enjoying the evening cool on the river)

Seal: Shotei

Publisher: Watanabe, Tokyo

Date: c. 1909-23

Size: Vertical Ôtanzaku (Mitsugiri-ban), 37 x 16,3 cm (overall)

Very good impression and colours, with lustre printing in the foreground silhouettes. Margins trimmed, some small expert restorations, thinly backed. Very good overall condition.

Note: There is another - illegible black two character seal near the bottom right corner, only hardly visible, also in lustre printing. Since printed on bawith two characters is at lower right, only unclear, because it is printed unevenly on black in black glossy print. A very rare sheet, printed before the Kantô earthquake of 1923, when the printing plates were destroyed.
