Panoramic view of a vast mountain landscape.

Title: (The stations) Nissaka - Kakegawa - Fukuroi - Mitsuke - Hamamatsu

Series: Tôkaidô gojûsan-eki goshuku meisho (Famous Views of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido Road - five stations each)

Signature: Ichiyûsai Kuniyoshi shuku-zu

Publisher: Tsuruya Kiemon (Senkakudô) and Tsutaya Kichizô (Kôeidô), Edo

Date: c. 1835

Format: Vertical Ôban, 25 x 37,5 cm (overall)

Very good impression and colours, only very slight fading. Unbacked, wide margins. Soiling, a few small stains, ink smudge at the mountain-top. Overall still very good condition.
A rare print showing an unusually "pure" landscape, with only a few very tiny figures on the path to the lower right, on which the famous "weeping stone" of Nissaka is also discernible. From one of the few, sought-after landscape series by the artist. The series title varies according to the number of stations on the (altogether twelve) print. MFA Boston dates this series to 1830-35, Marks, Publishers (P8036) to c. 1838-42.
