Ryûryûkyo Shinsai ( 1764?-1820)

Still life with wine pot, coral branch and a cloth, wrapped in a paper decorated with the design of a stretched out tiger. A New Year's surimono for the year of the tiger 1818.

Size: Kakuban, 20 x 17,3 cm

Very good impression in very good, delicate colours, with metallic pigments and strong relief printing, on thick paper. Margins partly trimmed. On the right margin four small binding holes and a vertical fold line. Minor rubbing and soiling. Very good overall condition.

A rare Surimono. Ill. in Mirviss/Carpenter, The Frank Lloyd Wright Collection of Surimono, 1995, p. 146 f, no. 41, with a transcription and translation of the three poems, all of them dealing with the drinking of plum wine.
