Yoshida Hiroshi (1876-1950)

Horses grazing under a wide sky with towering clouds.

Title: Numazaki bokujô (Numazaki Pasture)

Signature: Yoshida

Seals: Sai, Ran

Date: Shôwa 13 (1928)

Size: Large horizontal, 54 x 70,5 cm (image size)

A rare print by the artist. One of the few colour woodblock prints by Yoshida in this very large format, which was extremely difficult to print, hence probably also causing a number of misprints. This copy could be such a misprint or a printer’s proof.

No jizuri seal, but presumably an early impression since no later editions of this image are known. Most likely the jizuri seal was omitted due to misprinting. Impression of the key block flawed, the colours however are very good and strong. Full margins. In each corner margin a tiny tack hole and surrounding trace. Some paper defects and damages to the surface, two upper corners of the image cut out, restored. Some small printer’s stains. Margins a little soiled. Creasing. Overall good condition.
