Title: „Scène de Brigands“

The artist Claude Lorrain, born Claude Gellée (Champagne 1600 – 1682 Rome) is well known for his beautiful landscape paintings, he was one of the leading landscape painters in Italy during his lifetime. In this etching, he combined an atmospheric landscape with a fierce ambush in the foreground.

Etching with dry point process, here the number eight of a series of twelve and it is version number five of nine, Rome 1633 - 41. On the presentation paper, written in hand: „erworben bei Paul Prouté“, 1942 – “bought at Paul Prouté, 1942”. Prouté was a well-known art and graphic dealer in St. Germain, Paris.

Size: 12,8 x 19,6 cm

Beautiful print in very good condition. At the bottom right a barely visible designation, at the left margin the number „8“. Rare and interesting collectible!
