Natori Shunsen (1886-1960)

The actor Kataoka Nizaemon XI (1857-1934) in the role of Kakogawa Honzô disguised as an itinerant priest (Komusô), with his hat and Shakuhachi flute, in the Kabuki play „Kanadehon Chûshingura“ (The 47 Faithful Ronin)

Excellent impression and colours, with a silver-grey mica background. Paper a tiny bit toned due to its age, somewhat creased, otherwise good condition.
One of the impressive early portraits of actors by Shunsen.

According to Blair, Toledo Museum of Art, 1930 (Fig. 135) it was a limited edition of 150 prints.
